Tenkō, became the nickname of a Grey Fox in Costa Rica, which the Director cherished in her childhood, or 転向. This Japanese term refers to the ideological conversions of Japanese communists and socialists between 1925 and 1945.

The term means "changing direction".

The earliest known use of tenko is in the 1940s.
